Moved By the Spirit

It was a big weekend for Roadside. I ate 40 hors d'oeuvres!! First off, thanks to all of you who turned out for Amazing Grace. The film took in $4 million and finished the weekend in the top ten at the box office. And of course, on Saturday night Mat Whitecross took home the Spirit Award for Best Documentary for he and Michael Winterbottom's The Road to Guantanamo. Here Mat is on stage accepting his award from Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Illeana Douglas (photo courtesy of Getty Images):And here he is later in the evening sitting next to some Israeli dude while I ate a burrito (photo courtesy of my craptacular cell phone. burrito courtesy of the Academy Award-nominated director of the brilliant My Country, My Country, Laura Poitras):
He made me promise not to show anyone this pic (activists don't smile this big!!), but he's back in London now. What's he gonna do??

German Cuisine

Big news from the Berlinale. Roadside Attractions has picked up a new film about Zen and the art of cooking called How To Cook Your Life. Directed by renowned German filmmaker Doris Dorrie, How To Cook focuses on San Francisco-based Zen priest and master chef, Edward Espe Brown as he attempts to explain how you literally are what you eat. You can check out the Variety review here. We are aiming for a Summer release for the film. So hurry up and get your Scoops fix while you still can.

Join the Club

In case you've missed the last few issues of AARP The Magazine ("The World's Largest Circulation Magazine"!), here's your heads-up that Boynton Beach Club is now on DVD, just in time for Valentine's Day. Buy it for your sweetheart right before you break it to Johnny that he's getting a new grandpa. And in case you love Wal-Mart, but just can't seem to find one of their stores anywhere, Boynton Beach is also available from their brand spankin' new download service. Good luck walking your nana through that one.
